Did I Ever Mention How Much I Love Wikipedia?

Today's a lazy day. Gray and cold and dreary in typical New England March-ness. I went to my usual list of bloggers in search of easy inspiration. It came to me from Mary-LUE, who tagged a few specific peeps for a meme, and then opened it up to Everyone. Well, I'm one of the "every," so I'm playing. Here goes:

1. Go to Wikipedia and type in your Birthday Month and day only.
July 30

2. List 3 Events that occurred that day.
1619 - In Jamestown, Virginia, the first representative assembly in the Americas, the House of Burgesses, convenes for the first time. I like the idea of sharing my birth date with this one.

1954 - Elvis Presley makes his debut as a public performer. Any friend of Johnny Cash is a friend of mine.

1975 - Jimmy Hoffa disappears from the parking lot of the Machus Red Fox restaurant in Bloomfield Hills, Michigan, a suburb of Detroit, at about 2:30 p.m. He is never seen or heard from again. The mysterious 7/30.

3. List 2 important Birth days.
1863 - Henry Ford, American industrialist (d. 1947). You'd think that being born under the same stars would mean I'd share at least some of his efficiency and organization. But, no.

1947 - Arnold Schwarzenegger, Austrian-born American actor, body builder, and Governor of California. Another loveable Leo.

4. List 1 Death.
1898 - Otto von Bismarck, 1st Chancellor of the German Empire (b. 1815) This is the only name I recognized.

5. List a Holiday or Observance.
Vanuatu - Independence Day (formerly Anglo-Frech condominium of the New Hebrides). Vanu-what?

6. Tag 5 other bloggers.
I'm not going to force this on anyone else, but if you share the Wiki-love and are looking for some random facts to disseminate, then by all means, pick this one up. Okay, maybe I will force it on somebody: Linda, it's a meme that seems like a good match for you.

I'll play. Sept 27

1787-The US constitution is delivered to the states for ratification.
1821- Mexico gains independence from Spain. Freedom!!
1937- The last Balinese Tiger died. (So sad...)

1805-George Muller a Prussian orphanage builder was born. (A man after my own heart...)
1947- American singer, MeatLoaf was born. (I feel I should apologize for this...hmmm)

1921-Engelbert Humperdinck (teehee) the German composer died. (Perhaps I should consider his name for my adoption...)

And finally, Sept. 27 is WORLD TOURISM DAY. (And I do love to travel.)

This is a fun one! I'm going to play!

October 18

1009 - The Church of the Holy Sepulchre, a Christian church in Jerusalem, is completely destroyed by the Fatimid caliph Al-Hakim bi-Amr Allah, who hacks the Church's foundations down to bedrock.

1767 - Mason-Dixon line, survey separating Maryland from Pennsylvania is completed.

1968 - A police raid on John Lennon and Yoko Ono's flat finds 168 grams of marijuana. They later plead guilty and are fined £150.

2003 - Bolivian Gas War: President Gonzalo Sánchez de Lozada, is forced to resign and leave Bolivia.

At the risk of sounding like a teenage boy, I could not stop giggling when I read "Bolivian gas war!" And it must have been pretty bad gas if the president was forced to leave! LOL!

And I share a birthday with Isabella Briggs Myers. I'm assuming she's the Briggs of the Myers-Briggs test.

Oh & Lee Harvey Oswald.

It's also Chili pepper day in France. That must be an interesting holiday.

Wasn't this fun? I'm glad you decided to play. Of course, I'd never heard of the House of Burgesses (at least not that I remember). Elvis is cool as is Johnny Cash. And I bet from now on, on your birthday, you'll have a little moment when you wonder about Jimmy Hoffa's fate.

Imagine my surprise to find that November 2, my birthday, was the birthday of two (very, very dead and rather inconsequential, but still) Presidents, Harding and Polk. What are the odds?

I'd better start doing something, er, more presidential, with my life.
